It’s the most wonderful time of the year! The CrossFit Games Open kicks off Thursday, February 22nd!
Every year the CrossFit Games Season begins with the CrossFit Games Open. Over 5 weeks, one workout is released each week on Thursday at 7 p.m., and athletes have four days or 96 hours to complete the workout and submit their score. Scores are due before 7 p.m. that Monday.
February 22nd to March 26th
Week 1 (18.1): Feb. 22 – 26
Week 2 (18.2): Mar. 1 – 5
Week 3 (18.3): Mar. 8 – 12
Week 4 (18.4): Mar. 15 – 19
Week 5 (18.5): Mar 22 – 26
More than 272,000 people from around the globe competed in the Open last year. As the largest CrossFit community event of the season, the Open ties together athletes from within the same gym to those in their broader city, country and world.
For five weeks, you—and the hundreds of thousands of other people who signed up—are at the whim of the Director of the Games, Dave Castro. Taking on workouts that may push you to learn a new skill, improve the skills you already have, or go into a darker place than you’ve ever been before.
The Open welcomes anyone 14 to 100 years old. All you need to do is sign-up, and enter a score each week. To make the Open even more accessible, a scaled option was introduced in 2015. Each time a workout is released, athletes will be given two versions: Rx’d and Scaled. The Scaled-workout option is designed to be accessible to the majority of people who attend CrossFit affiliates. If you do CrossFit, there’s a very high chance you can do the Open, too.
This year we want to make the Open extra special! This will be by far the largest community event at our gym throughout the year and hope to have maximum participation from all of you! We will follow the CrossFit Games Open workout standards each week for the RX, Scaled, Teens, & Masters divisions, but can modify as needed for each athlete who is not participating in the actual CrossFit Open. For us, the Open is more about community and camaraderie as opposed to making it a “who’s better than who” competition.

CrossFit HQ’s Live Open Announcements begin at 7PM every Thursday. We’ll join together at the gym to watch these announcements and two brave souls will tackle the just announced CrossFit Games Open workout head to head! We have some in mind for this, but if you’d like to challenge someone to “Fight Night”, let us know!!
The weekly main event of the 2018 CrossFit 563 Open! CrossFit 563 members that are registered for the 563 Open will report to CrossFit 563 to perform the CrossFit Games Open workout announced the evening before. Each athlete will be assigned a heat, and have an assigned judge to ensure adherence to the movement standards published by CrossFit HQ.
The workout brief will begin at 5:00 PM and the first heat of athletes will begin between 5:15 & 5:30, depending on the workout. If you can not make it at exactly 5:00 pm, no worries. You can sign-up for a heat ahead of time and jump in when you get there, warmed up, and ready. Spectators encouraged! Bring a chair, your own drink (adult beverages acceptable), and help push these guys and gals through the finish line.
“Friday Night Lights” is scheduled from 5:00PM to 8:00PM but please be aware, because of the *UNKNOWN* variable of these workouts, there may be some nights that the competition goes on longer than expected; please be flexible. If needed, we may start earlier than 5:00PM as well.
Ideally you make it in on Friday night but if you cannot, you’ll have the opportunity to have your Open workout judged during either Open Gym times Saturday and Sunday. If this does not work, it will be your responsibility to set up a time to be judged by a coach outside of regular class times.
Each week we will design a partner workout similar the Open workout, that can be substituted in during Friday Night Lights, Saturday, or Sunday sessions. Whether you’re nervous about tackling them alone or just prefer partner workouts, this will be an option each week.
